I honestly don't even know how Dillard's and Macy's are staying open. I know that Lakeside has taken a lot of business from the mall. That seems to be the latest trend--Lakeside style shopping areas. I'm not really sure why. I would much rather shop in air conditioned comfort than to have to walk all outdoors in the heat or rain. However, in Lkld. you are still only 30-45 min. away from some pretty nice malls--International Plaza comes to mind. Lakeland can only have one mall at a time. Right now the "it" mall is Lakeside Village. Because of all the attention over there Lakeland Square just filled bankruptcy, as did the majority of the stores within the mall.
